HALLOWEEN (1978)

Director John Carpenter’s ORIGINAL horror classic. Escaped maniac Michael Myers returns home 15 years after committing a grisly murder…and just in time for Halloween. Jamie Lee Curtis, in her film debut, plays a babysitter who is stalked by Myers. A sleeper hit at the box office, this thriller inspired a whole series of “slasher movies” featuring teenagers in peril. (“You can’t kill the boogeyman.”) Rated R
 
 

BACK TO THE FUTURE (1985)

40th Anniversary
Time-travel comedy adventure from Steven Spielberg & Robert Zemeckis. 80’s teenager Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) teams up with mad scientist Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd). (“Doc, are you telling me you built a time machine … out of a DeLorean?”) Marty is transported to the year 1955 and must find a way to get “back to the future.” (“Roads? HOW TO LOSE A GUY IN 10 DAYS (2003)

Delightful romcom starring Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey. She’s a magazine writer whose assignment is to date a man, drive him crazy, then write an article telling women what NOT to do. He’s a hotshot advertising executive trying to win a bet with his boss in order to land an important account. Both have ulterior motives, complicated by an undeniable attraction. (“True or False? All’s fair in love and war.”) Rated PG-13
 
 

THE SOUND OF MUSIC (1965)

60th Anniversary
“The hills are alive” with the sound of the most popular musical of all time, winner of the Academy Award® for Best Picture. Julie Andrews stars as governess to the seven lively children of Captain von Trapp (Christopher Plummer). Shot on location in Austria, the majestic Alps look awesome on the big screen and the score by Rodgers & Hammerstein is full of favorite tunes. THE POLAR EXPRESS (2004)

“All aboard!” On Christmas Eve a boy takes a mysterious train bound for the North Pole, in this adaptation of the beloved children’s book by Chris Van Allsburg. The performance-capture animation used by director Robert Zemeckis made it possible for Tom Hanks to play six roles, including the conductor (“Tickets, please!”) and Santa Claus. THE HOLIDAY (2006)

An American in LA (Cameron Diaz) and a Brit in London (Kate Winslet) swap houses at Christmas time to escape the memory of former boyfriends. They get more than they bargained for when the change of scenery brings unexpected romance. Jude Law and Jack Black co-star in this heartwarming romantic comedy that perfectly captures the spirit of the holiday season. (“I like corny...I’m looking for corny in my life!”) Rated PG-13
